Welcome to TWM academy

TWM Academy is a unique form of learning resource designed to appeal to all learning styles. The academy contains around 6,000 pages of content which is made available to individual learners in ways which are most suited to each individual. We place the fact that people learn differently - and are differently motivated to learn - at the centre of what we do. One of the first things you do when you enrol with the Academy is to find out how you prefer to learn - whether you prefer to follow a prescribed path of study, whether you prefer to just ‘dive in’ and explore a subject or theme or whether you prefer some other approach. We all have our preferences and the Academy is happy and able to accommodate them. We encourage learners to think of TWM Academy as a body of knowledge, a motivation to explore management, an advice and help centre, a monthly magazine, an intelligent dictionary, a reference tool, a set of challenging thoughts and ideas, a set of guided and unguided learning opportunities, a reward system, a community for learning about management and as a personal learning resource. Each enrolled member of TWM Academy is accorded individual respect for the way in which he/she wishes to learn.

TWM Academy content is contemporary and dynamic - we add updates ten times a year – but it does not ignore the past. By grading its articles as standard, thoughtful or progressive, the Academy provides learners with opportunities to study management from several perspectives, to look at what has worked in the past, whether it still works in the present, whether it will still work in the future or whether there is a need to develop a new approach, a new practice. It is important to remember that only the future is truly manageable; the past has gone, though it still available for study, for perspective and for experience; the present demands action and decision which will each determine the future; the future demands consideration, action and decision now in order to become what you, the manager, wish it to be. The Academy provides the knowledge, tools, philosophy and options for you to consider as you develop your management competence and future.

We do not guarantee that everything in the Academy is right, correct, definitive, conformist etc. In fact, we encourage amongst our staff a degree of irreverence; if management knowledge, theory and practice are strong enough, they will cope with sceptics and unbelievers poking fun at them and grow stronger for the challenges – or whither through inappropriateness. However we ensure that our content is sound, that it does promote good management and that you the learner can benefit from the knowledge and competence development we provide. We want you to engage with our materials, to question, to challenge, to use them in the same way you will approach the challenges of managing effectively within your work; but most of all we want you to learn, to become better managers, to achieve higher levels of performance within your own working manager role.

To help you track your own progress the Academy contains several different exercises which enable you to assess your knowledge, your self-awareness and your comprehension. The Academy automatically retains for your use and feedback the results from each exercise and provides advice on what to do next.

To receive recognition of your progress, you can complete special exercises where satisfactory performance can earn accredited certificates (subject to particular requirements – for further information please write to dean@twmacademy.com).

TWM Academy has assembled a world class team of writers and contributors from many countries around the world. Each member of our faculty brings sound subject expertise plus a local perspective from countries as physically and culturally diverse as Chile and India, as New Zealand and United Kingdom as United States and Hong Kong.
